About Tyler

On Friday, April 13, 2007, the first day of the Dyer family's vacation, Tyler Dyer, a Waterford, CT teen and stand-out high school freshman baseball player, dove into the Gulf waters of Florida. In a horrific accident, Tyler broke his neck in three places. He was flown by helicopter first to one hospital and then to another hospital that could better meets his needs.

After seven hours of surgery, his prognosis is very uncertain. We are all praying that this devoted athlete and wonderful young man is able to return home to Waterford and regain use of his arms and legs. His passion for baseball earned him a spot on the 13-year-old Connecticut State Championship Team last year. As a well-rounded athlete, he earned the nickname "Butter" after playing in several basketball leagues.

Tyler Update

Tyler was moved to Gaylord hospital in Wallingford, Connecticut on June 4th and continues to work on his reahbilitation daily. He is gaining strenth on his left side and work very hard to get the right side going as well. His attitude remains positive and he is working very hard at getting well. He is very determined to play baseball again and is glad that he is back in Connecticut and is able to visit with friends and family.

So many people in the community have been so genrerous thorugout this time and the family would like to thank everyone for their support. They truly believe that the support from family, friends and the entire community have helped get them through this.

The family has received a donation of a handicap van which was a genrous and kind gesture of a family who recently lost their son. There is still a long road ahead and we will keep you posted of Tyler's progress.
